1. What is Autism? - How do you know if your child may be at risk for autism?

  1. Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (CHAT):

  2. 1.  Does your child enjoy being swung, bounced on your knee, etc.?
    2.  Does your child take an interest in other children?
    3.  Does your child like climbing on things, such as up stairs?
    4.  Does your child enjoy playing peek-a-boo/hide-and-seek?
    5.  Does your child ever PRETEND, for example, to make a cup of tea using a toy cup and teapot,
         or pretend other things?
    6.  Does your child ever use his/her index finger to point to ask for something?
    7.  Does your child ever use his/her index finger to point to indicate interest in something?
    8.  Can your child play properly with small toys (e.g. cars or bricks) without just mouthing, fiddling with,
         or dropping them?
    9.  Does your child ever bring objects over to you (parent) to SHOW you something?

  3. If the answer is no to four or more of these questions, including questions 5 and 7, you should have your child evaluated by a developmental specialist in autism.

2. Does ATC have a year round program and what are the hours of operation?

Yes, the Center is open year round, even on holidays. The Center is open 24 hours a day.
ATC's office and day program hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

3. What services are provided?

Educational, vocational, residential, employment, diagnostic, OT, PT and speech therapy services for children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. ATC also has a Deaf-Blind program.

4. Are the educational, vocational and residential services offered year round?

Yes.

5. Does ATC offer daycare?

No, ATC does not have daycare services.                                                          back to top

6. What age does ATC accept for programming?

School age is 3 - 21 years of age
Vocational age is 18 years and up
Residential age is 3 years and up
Rehab is all ages

7. What therapies are offered?

Occupational therapy
Physical therapy
Speech therapy
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy

8. What other types of activities and programs are offered?

Art
Dance
Equine
Movement
Music
Pett
Yoga

9. Does ATC have any openings?

Yes, ATC has openings for speech, occupational and physical therapy.

10. What is the teaching style of the school?

Each student has an individualized educational plan developed by an Interdisciplinary team including the local independent school district personnel. The student-teacher ratio is one to three in most instances. One on one is provided as needed. The program is behaviorally based instruction with special attention given to the development of communication skills. Speech, occupational and physical therapy are provided as needed. The school program is approved by Texas Education Agency.  

11. What type of medical support does the program provide?

ATC has a physician and other community specialists experienced with Autism Spectrum Disorder routinely on site. RN’s provide medical care 24 hours a day. Additional community physicians and specialists are used as needed. ATC has agreements with local hospitals to provided emergency treatment as needed.

12. What types of skills are taught in a residential program?                         back to top

Daily living and independent skills are taught in a home environment. Behavior and communication training are incorporated with all activities. Residents go shopping, out to eat, to a movie, to the park and/or to other community activities daily.

13. Does ATC accept individuals from other states?

Yes, ATC has no geographic limitations. 

14. What is the cost of diagnostics?

Costs are based upon individual needs and are very competitive with other private providers of autism services.  

15. What are the current funding sources?

Local school districts, county, state, federal agencies, Medicaid, Medicare, private pay and insurance.

16. Does ATC provide outpatient diagnostic services?

Yes, on a limited basis at the current time. ATC has developed a Diagnostic protocol utilizing the most current observational evaluation. Functional, behavioral and programming assessments are also provided. This service is a minimum of $1000.00.

Yes, tours must be scheduled by calling in advance and making arrangements.

18. Can ATC make referrals?

No, ATC is unable to make referrals.

19. Does ATC accept Medicaid?

Yes, ATC does accept Medicaid for OT, PT and Speech Therapy. 

20. Does ATC accept private insurance?

Yes, ATC does accept private insurance, although most insurance companies will not pay for long term care.
Please check with your individual insurance company.

21. Does ATC offer scholarship programs?

Currently we do not have scholarship programs.

22. How can I get on the waiting list?

Fill out an application and send in the appropriate information on the referral sheet.

23. How long can one expect to be on the waiting list?

The waiting list has several variables, but it depends on the most appropriate fit. This makes it difficult to determine the length of time one will be on a waiting list. There is no waiting list for rehab services.
